Reading is important, because if you can read, you can learn anything about everything and everything about anything. - Tonie DePaola
Here at BISR we are passionate about our library and our world of books. Reading is a gift and if nurtured at an early stage it will remain with us for the rest of our lives.
This is why it is so important to read a variety of texts whether fiction, poetry, play scripts or our fabulous new National Geographic magazines. Our students need to challenge themselves more, sadly our students just don't read enough!
Reading is truly an amazing experience, to love a book so much and to be so absorbed in the story to the point that you feel that you are actually there! It feels so real like you have seen the movie - that is the point our students must strive to be at when they read.
Combined, the libraries at BISR Main site and Salwa Section have over 86,000 resources, including books, teacher resources and web links via our Eclipse online library system. We also hold the entire set of Encylopedia Britannica in the senior library as well as hundreds of reference only books. We now have a subscription to National Geographic magazine and have hundreds of new graphic novels.
In our ever changing world and certainly in terms of technology it is sometimes difficult to predict. We live in the "Information Age"and we believe that we are achieving a beautiful balance of both books in the physical sense and resources in the digital sense.
We have recently installed Overdrive an online digital library system and have the foundations of an amazing digital library equipped with audio and e books. When this is up and running it will integrate with our Eclipse system to enable our students to borrow digital resources, both audio and e-books.
We are very pleased to announce the introduction of student librarians at BISR, this is part of the student leadership opportunities within our school.
Congratulations to those students both in middle and senior school who have now been chosen to become our first ever student librarians. We are very excited and are really looking forward to working with such a dedicated and committed group of students. This will give them important leadership skills and opportunities this coming year and to make a difference to our school.
